A visit to San Francisco includes the famous central square of Union Square known as the place of shopping, the wealthiest hotels and the most prestigious theaters. A short distance away there is Chinatown, the district that houses the largest Chinese community outside of China. Fisherman's Wharf is the old fishermen's pier now renovated, it is very lively even in the evening with restaurants and shops. The point of greatest interest is Pier 39 frequented by a colony of sea lions and, obviously, tourists. One of the best known stretches of road in San Francisco is undoubtedly Lombard Street; a suggestive and characteristic street with 8 steep and narrow switchbacks surrounded by numerous flower beds. The most notorious prison in the United States is located right here at the bay of San Francisco, the maximum security penitentiary of Alcatraz hosted among the most wanted criminals in America.
